SHS Volleyball Capture First-ever NTL Championship

Last year, the SHS volleyball team qualified for PIAA District IV Championship play, a first in decades. So how did they level up this season? For the first time ever, the squad brought home the coveted NTL title, losing just two games the entire season!

These are the girls who rewrote the history books. The team had already qualified for post-season play by virtue of their 14-2 season record. If you see these gals in the halls, be sure to tell them what an awesome job they are doing representing Sayre!

Here are some highlights from last week’s Spirit Week activities. Many thanks to senior class advisor, Miss Cochi, for organizing all the activities. And thanks also to Mr. Polinski for being the official photographer of all Sayre High School greatness. And lastly, kudos to all the awesome students and staff who participated in the activities. These are the most memorable moments of our lives!

‘Merica Monday

Is this an advertisement for a new Spiderman movie? Or is it our very own Trent Callear? You decide. Sayre student body showed great patriotism today with many creative outfits.

Nerd Tuesday

Some of these nerds didn’t have to work very hard at it… LOL. This group of seniors was totally into the part — suspenders, horn-rimmed glasses, and all!

Algebra Champion Crowned

2015-16 Champ bests a field of 35, wins iPad

Planet Numeracy’s first-ever iPad giveaway winner has been crowned. Veronica Johnson won the grand prize. Although, several students were nipping at her heels, she topped the field of 35 students in finishing the year with the highest overall final grade in all my algebra classes.

This competition takes students from all over Northeastern Pennsylvania and divides them into teams of 5 or 6 students.  The teams then compete against other teams in individual and group math exercises.  Each team has a teacher that acts as a coach and encourages the students to do their best.

This year, Abigail Moliski was part of the 2nd place team out of 29 teams in the seventh and eighth grade category.

Also, Mr. Pack was the coach for the 2nd place team in the fifth and sixth grade category.

You make us all Redskin Proud!

Note: Thanks to Mr. Selleck for not only being the organizer of this annual activity, but also for providing the above report and photo of the event.

Harding Nabs Two Victories Against Athens

Although the lady ‘skins lost to host Athens on Tuesday, Maddie Harding shined. She captured first place finishes in both the high jump (4′ 6″) and the pole vault (7’ 6″).

Andi Noldy also had a P.R. in the triple jump hitting 30′ 2″ which was enough to grab a third place against Athens premier girls jumpers.

Both the girls and boys squads are in action tomorrow at the NTL Championship at Athens High School. There will be one last chance to qualify for the PIAA District IV Championships in Williamsport.

Best wishes to all our athletes. You make us all Redskin Proud!

Noldy's Top Algebra Student Quarter 3

Lonnie “Lavender” was tops in Mr. Noldy’s Algebra grade book for the 3rd quarter of 2015-16. Many students, including Lonnie are in the hunt for an Apple iPad 2 — the grand prize to Mr. Noldy’s top Algebra student for the year.

It should be a nail-biter!

Sayre Girls Basketball Bows Out of State Tourney

Although they lost their first PIAA State Championship tournament game, it was a narrow 2-point defeat that came down to the final minute of the ball game. Our girls were playing against Lebanon Catholic, a parochial school. Because these schools are able to recruit beyond their school’s geographic boundaries, Sayre was not expected to have much of a chance.

Our ladies proved everyone wrong. When they opened the game to a 7-2 lead, Lebanon Catholic knew they were going to have their hands full.

Hampered by turnovers in the 3rd quarter, the ladies fought back from a 10-point deficit. It was an exciting game, and it was also gratifying to see so many Redskin fans make the long trek down to Lancaster.

The returning starters have got to be excited about next season!
